Methadone Cup Eases the Pain
It has been a tough summer with lean football pickings to choose from. Masters Football and Copa America barely touched the sides but it is time to come out of hibernation and feast yourself on the delights of the Premiership starting with the first Mickey Mouse Cup aka the Charity Shield this Sunday. It gives us no inclination as to who will win the title, nor do we see good football but at least it is 22 men on a pitch kicking a football.
As if other managers hadn’t realized that the Season is about to start transfers are in full flow as teams like Birmingham realize that their squad is dire and players like Ghaly “will add strength and depth to the squad”. That is like saying Sadam Hussain brings different and interesting views to the political landscape. Apparently ‘if he is half as good as Stephen Clemence’ he will be delighted. Well, he is s##te [no swearing please - Cwoff) and so was Clemence, so perhaps he has a good deal?! Anyone for Mido?
So who is getting the most jittery apart from our beloved West Midlands club? Well Sunderland have calmed down a bit. They have shied away from Craig Gordon who they were going to pay a club and national record fee for. Not sure what was going through his head, even the best goalkeeper in the world isn’t going to stop the goals flooding in. My suggestion would be to build a brick wall in front of their goal - it would only cost about £250 or bring back Mark Bosnich.
Middlesbrough got rid of Stuart Parnaby but bought in Luke Young …not really sure why. They also look first in line for Alan Smith but sold Mark Viduka …not really sure why. If they sell Yakubu they are going to struggle this year with an ageing squad smattered with only the slightest signs of quality in the shape of Downing, Tuncay and Woodgate.
Reading seem to be oblivious to the fact that the season starts next week and are content to have bought precisely nobody unless you count Greg Halford for 3million (which you really can’t).
With over a month of transfers to go it cannot be much longer before Newcastle realize they have no defence, the West Ham Chairman decides he wants to splash the cash on some money grabbing journey man, Arsenal realize they have not replaced Viera, Henry, Pires and Ljunberg, Chelsea realize they cannot win the Premiership with Steve Sidwell in their midfield and Fulham come to the conclusion that their whole team is crap!
Still at least football is back on the telly!
