A Cricketing Anomaly

What do Sachin Tendulkar and Brain Lara have in common?

Plenty of course; they were the two pre-eminent batsmen on their generation, both have more than thirty test centuries to their name, both have over 10,000 test runs, both dominated the greatest spinners of all time who happened to operate in their era and both were largely unsuccessful captains of their country.

However there is one very surprising anomaly to their records which was completed yesterday when Monty Panesar dismissed Tendulkar for 16 in India’s second innings. The key to is, that the test was being played at Lords; the Home of Cricket.

Every time a player takes five wickets in a test innings or scores a test century at the Home of Cricket their name is inscribed on the Honours Board in the Pavilion.

When Tendulkar was dismissed in what is largely thought to be his last innings at Lords it ensured that two of the greatest players of all time - Tendulkar and Lara - will never appear on the Honours Board.
